Weight loss and GLP-1 medications

Weight-management visits are one of the most common reasons people look at telehealth. Clinicians on platforms such as Ro, Hims, and Hers may discuss GLP-1 medicines when they fit a person’s health history. DoctorsHome explains those names. It does not decide who should take them.

Weight loss and GLP-1 medications
  • Semaglutide and tirzepatide are the GLP-1 medicines people ask about most.
  • Some products are approved for weight management. Others are approved for type 2 diabetes and are sometimes considered off-label.
  • A licensed clinician reviews medical history before any prescription. This site cannot do that.

Medications people ask about

These are brand and generic names that show up on major telehealth sites. A prescription, if any, comes from a licensed clinician. Listing a name here is not a suggestion to take it.

  • Semaglutide, including Wegovy, which is approved for weight management in eligible adults
  • Oral semaglutide options that some platforms describe as a Wegovy pill
  • Ozempic (semaglutide), approved for type 2 diabetes and sometimes considered off-label for weight
  • Tirzepatide, including Zepbound, which is approved for weight management in eligible adults
  • Mounjaro (tirzepatide), approved for type 2 diabetes and sometimes considered off-label for weight
  • Orforglipron (Foundayo), an oral GLP-1 some platforms list for weight management

Who usually looks this up

Adults who want to understand injectable and pill forms before they talk with a clinician. Men and women both use these visits. Eligibility depends on health history, other medicines, and the clinician’s judgment, and it varies by state.

What a telehealth weight visit usually involves

On a prescribing platform, people typically complete a health questionnaire. A licensed clinician reviews it and may ask follow-up questions by message or video. If a medicine is prescribed, a pharmacy fills it. DoctorsHome does not offer that visit and does not ship medication.

Safety notes

GLP-1 medicines can have serious side effects, including a possible risk of thyroid tumors. They are not appropriate for everyone, including some people with a personal or family history of certain thyroid cancers. Nausea and other stomach symptoms are commonly discussed. A clinician is the person who reviews whether any of this applies to you.
